Both displays are set to 4K resolution x I have issues with pixelated fonts and icons in some parts of Plasma interface once I set scaling factor to 1. Font DPI is automatically set to when I set scaling factor to 1. The pixelated icons and fonts are visible in the following screenshot text beneath the "Look And Feel" title, the "Get New Looks Any idea if this is a bug or it can be solved somehow? I've noticed that this issue only occurs if I choose a floating point scaling factor 1.
I don't have this issue with 2 for scaling factor, but as said in the first post this factor makes everything too big. I have the same problem, on any scaling not only 1.
The body text of Quipzilla and Kmail for example is rendered very badly. The menu items are sharp but the body of emails and the page itself in the browser has fuzzy fonts. I am on: KDE Frameworks 5. Hi, I found that I suffer from similar problem, but it doesn't occur in Kmail or Qupzilla for me. In my case only system theme selector as shown aboveKDE Store, Plasma loading screen and the darkened pre-shutdown screen are affected, thus I'm not entirely sure if it's exactly the same thing.

That package will pull in mark for installation, in other words the newest version of the hwe kernel 5. You can leave the standard stack installed so that you have the option of selecting older kernel versions at boot time, or you can remove the old stack and save some disk space, if that is your preference.

All Mint No one will nag you or require you to set up a deferral period or force the update on you or any of that stuff. With any Unlike Windows, a Linux distro is the product of hundreds of unrelated projects that each go at their own pace, fixing bugs and providing new features as they see fit. New versions of any given distro update a bunch of the packages to newer versions from upstream.
Windows 10 users have no such option. Mint is based only on the Ubuntu LTS versions, ignoring the short term releases, with each Mint minor release keeping the Ubuntu bits from upstream, while updating the bits that are not in the core Ubuntu package, like the Cinnamon desktop, which is developed by Mint itself. Others may disagree, and they have the option of sticking with whatever works for them. Mint, in fact, had a KDE version up until quite recently, and it may well have been on that list if it still existed.
It was very similar to Kubuntu, to the point that a lot of people thought it was silly to have two nearly identical products available. Kubuntu releases arrive twice a year, and three out of four of them are short-term releases that are supported for only nine months, after which you must upgrade to the new version if you wish to keep getting updates.
If you want KDE, you will have to either install that into Mint yourself, or go with another distro. If you want one of the desktop environments that Mint uses by default Cinnamon, MATE, XfceMint is a great choice, and remains my favorite if any of those desktops are to be used.

That said, After looking at a long video showing how to make icons that are crisper looking than with previous versions of Mint and reading some comments elsewhere, I think the hidpi difference is in the sharpness of screen objects, not in their sizes.
Or, more precisely, that their sizes, in Cinnamon, still are not being adjusted in smaller steps than from small to twice as large. I am not worried about icons and folders looking a bit blurry, but about being too small in their basic size and too large when twice as large, for me to feel comfortable using them.
It would depend on what they did to support hi-dpi. From what you mentioned before, it seemed that it was scaling everything by 2 in each dimension, which would ordinarily not lead to any blurring. While there have been exceptions a lot of people thought the upgrade from Mint Still, its not Windows 10, so the choice is yours whether to upgrade now, later, much later, or never. I was completely happy with Windows 7 when 10 came out, but I still performed the upgrade on my main PC to try it out.

This is the method suggested for doing this in the Arch Wiki. Ideally the screen size width and height of the monitor screen is automatically detected using the monitor's EDID information. This may not work correctly or not be to the user's preferences.
KDE currently lacks a convenient way to scale everything uniformly. Such a feature would also help to test proper scaling behaviour. Modify the X server's settings.
The DPI value is then calculated from these numbers and the monitor image's resolution in pixels. Use smaller numbers than the real dimension to simulate high DPI make everything appear larger or bigger numbers for low DPI make everything appear smaller.
The X server needs to be restarted for the changes to take effect. The X configuration is automatically determined each time X is started. In most cases, this works well and there is no need to manually specify X configuration information. To create it, run as root. A similar method is also demonstrated on AU here. For KDE 5. The best solution of scaling I found so far - is just set resolution to lower 2k instead of original 4k of my laptop. I don't see any blurriness - it is exactly the same as with my 2k display laptop, maybe even better. So my first advice - just lower your resolution.

LIB of ktexteditor. This looks kind of strange. What you see is actually no split screen, even that is a pure rendering artifacts, actually, the whole Kate windows is more or less one artifacts. A user reported this in Bug - Rendering issue in dual screen hidpi setup. The user himself investigated this and came to the same conclusion as me, the culprit is some winId call in KonsolePart.
As Kate constructs the KonsolePart widget without a parent first and then insert it into a layout, the code inside the part will call winId on a non-native widget. For people not able to update, a workaround is to disable both project and terminal plugin in your Kate setup, no ideal solution, but makes Kate at least usable again.

KTextEditor uses now this workaround. Even after all this fixed, Konsole still draws some artifacts. Konsole is more relying on paintEvent to clip correctly than KTextEditor.
Unfortunately the internal clipping done for the paintEvent seems to have the same off-by-one rounding issues like the manual setClipRect for QRect instead of QRectF.
This leads to this current state of the rendering in the master branch. You need to play a bit with the scaling factor and font size, too, to trigger the effects, as like all rounding errors, you need specific values to trigger them.
I hope the Qt bugs linked above can be fixed in the near future, as I doubt we can add workaround to all the applications affected nor do we want to and the clipping issue of the paintEvent, if it really is the reason for the last remaining Konsole artifacts, seems not to be really fixable at all in the application code, beside going away from fine grained repaints.

Lots of people will still be using Xorg for a while due to missing features in Wayland such as myself. Enabling this for them will go a long way to making Plasma look good on newer computers.
The only thing I noticed that happened to me, was my panel reset it's width it's on the left of my screen. Andrew, would you mind testing at multiple scale factors including non-integer ones and see if you can find any glaring regressions?
